Colgems 1970 Reissues

Was Colgems seriously considering reissuing
the Monkees’ catalog in late 1969/early 1970?

Part 5 The Monkees Present

Neko Chohlis went on to create the next album design -The Monkees Present - which was released in October 1969.  Every Colgems vinyl release of “Present” carried an error on the back cover; they misspelled Neko’s last name as “Cholis”.

We now know they were considering releasing a corrected version and yet never did. The original rear cover had a very washed-out look. In the photo below, the revised cover was darker and the photos clearer.

The second photo below highlights the “RE” which is found in the bottom corner next to Davy.  Even though the mistake was discovered too late by the label for the vinyl release, they were able to correct his name for the Colgems 8-track and cassette.

At least two other countries did issue the LP with the corrected rear slick: Mexico & Ecuador.  However the re-issues by Bell (Japan) in the 70’s as well as Rhino’s vinyl in the 80’s carried the incorrect rear jacket.

So was this correction delayed because the catalog was to be reissued, or simply dropped when the re-release plan was scrapped?
