COMPACT DISCS
CD Longboxes
When CDs were first sold in stores, the paperboard longbox packaging
was created to allow
shops to place new CDs (and now tapes)
in the same bins originally used for vinyl records.
Longboxes were 12" tall with the artwork taken from the
original square album cover art, reworked for the new shape and size.
For the Monkees, five CDs and one cassette were released in these paperboard boxes.
Their two greatest hits and four album reissues were packaged
in the less expensive blister packs.
In collecting these today the original longboxes
are desirable
since most people threw these away, and therefore they are harder to find.
The blister packs were generic and really add no value to the CD,
unless they are still sealed!
