Although "Monkee Flips" was released in album format in 1984, the cassette made its first appearance in July of 1986. When Rhino first decided to release 'Flips' on vinyl, not all of the original master tapes had been located. During the next two years the majority of the masters were found using the research involved in re-releasing the Monkees' catalogue.

When the time came to release the cassette, Rhino decided to remaster the entire album. A rare opening segue can be heard on the cassette with "Forget That Girl". It appears that Micky is working on his harmony for this tune and right before the song starts he yells "Is President Johnson's son really Jan Berry?". This bit of dialog can be also found on the remastered copy of the album. Unfortunately, the album jacket was not changed to reflect the reissue, but the disc itself shows the number "113 RE-1" engraved into the dead wax of the record.
